Job Summary

The Michigan Value Collaborative (MVC), housed at the University of Michigan, is seeking a detail-oriented self-starter to join the team in the role of Associate Program Manager. Strong management, interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills are critical to this role.  

The MVC is a statewide hospital and physician organization collaborative quality initiative (CQI), aiming to improve the health of Michigan through sustainable, high-value healthcare and enable Michigan patients to access the right care, at the right cost, at the right time. MVC provides hospital and physician organization leaders with claims-based healthcare utilization data to empower local quality improvement activities. In addition to leveraging claims data, the MVC team support a number of platforms to help facilitate collaboration and the sharing of best practices between its members.    

With guidance from MVCs Managing Director, the Associate Program Manager will be responsible for overseeing daily operations, including monitoring statement of work deliverables and finances for the MVC Coordinating Center. The responsibilities of this role will require the incumbent to operate with minimal supervision and will require critical thinking, creative problem solving, and expert collaboration skills to successfully lead operations for the MVC Coordinating Center.  Candidates for this position must be driven, with an intellectual curiosity and desire to continue learning, as well as the ability to oversee multiple workstreams at one time. This position allows for significant growth, with the opportunity to develop management and leadership skills.  

Responsibilities*

  • Monitor implementation and progress of MVCs operational initiatives, facilitating problem-solving and collaboration across MVC managers; ensure all operational deadlines/deliverables are met, provide implementation support, and facilitate input from appropriate groups, as needed
  • Manage finances, procurement, and budgeting for the MVC Coordinating Center; collaborate with CQI Operations team to monitor reimbursements, reconciliation, and annual close-out
  • Support development of the MVC Coordinating Centers annual statement of work and operational deliverables; lead the development and submission of progress reporting for the MVC Coordinating Center
  • Gather, analyze, and interpret quantitative and qualitative data to identify opportunities to improve the cost and quality of care for MVC members
  • Serve as the point of contact for MVC stakeholders, including other Collaborative Quality Initiatives, CQI Operations, and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan; triage requests from MVC stakeholders, ensuring requests are resolved in a timely manner, and monitor progress on collaborative initiatives
  • Support MVC Managing Director in the development, implementation, and assessment of MVCs strategic framework
  • Support data access requests and data sharing, including coordinating communications for all requests
  • Facilitate MVC Coordinating Center team culture and workplace environment efforts
  • Ensure adherence to MVC Coordinating Center quality standards and review project deliverables to ensure accuracy
  • Present on ongoing projects and deliverables regularly to internal and external audiences 

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelors degree in related field/discipline
  • At least 7 years of experience in a related field
  • Experience developing and managing defined statements of work, deliverables, and annual budgets
  • Previous experience supervising and managing direct report
  • Excellent multi-tasking and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail, as well as ability to work under pressure and reliably meet deadlines
  • Strong organization skills and ability to prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as excellent interpersonal skills
  • Professional, team-driven attitude, and proven ability to take initiative
  • Demonstrated proficiency in remote engagement/collaboration platforms, including Zoom and Microsoft Office Suite, content development tools including Canva and Adobe Acrobat Pro, survey tools including Qualtrics, and project management tools including Trello and Airtable

Desired Qualifications*

  • Masters degree in related field/discipline
  • Background in project management; developing new initiatives and working with/leading a team to achieve goals in a timely manner
  • Previous experience working with the BCBSM Collaborative Quality Initiatives
  • Background, or experience in healthcare operations, quality improvement, process improvement, and/or change management
  • Familiarity with University of Michigan policies, procedures, and data systems.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
