A Brief Overview
The physician who evaluates, treats, manages sick/well patients, documents medical findings in EPIC, provides support to patients, families and colleagues, collaborates with office administration and nursing staff. Board Certified Pediatrician to work in a community pediatric primary care office. Will see patients from birth to 18 years old. Will diagnose and treat various conditions. Do well and sick appointments. Counsel on vaccines. Order labs, testing, as appropriate. May need to round at Community hospitals to see newborns. Evenings and Saturdays are rotated. On call is also rotated. Be familiar with an electronic medical record. Ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, legal, regulatory and clinical standards and requirements including (but not limited to): HIPPA, OSHA, Joint Commission, DOH and CLIA. May represent CHOP with external organizations, professional associations upon request.

Wood Jr. Center for Fetal Diagnosis and Treatment at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). Our team has made amazing breakthroughs in the highly specialized field of fetal medicine, and we are one of only a few programs to offer comprehensive prenatal diagnosis, fetal therapy, and the option of delivering at a leading pediatric hospital in the Garbose Family Special Delivery Unit (SDU). Since opening in 1995, the Center has helped more than 27,800 expectant parents and performed over 2,000 surgeries, more than any other program in the world. Our teams see rare, complex anomalies every day - a level of experience that contributes to the best possible outcomes and future breakthroughs.

The Center for Fetal Diagnosis and Treatment/Garbose Family Special Delivery Unit at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is seeking a board certified ObGyn Hospitalist to join our dynamic multidisciplinary team in a very unique obstetrical care unit.

The primary focus of the Hospitalist will be the clinical care of obstetrical patients in the Special Delivery Unit over an average of 6 part-time-8 full-time shifts per month.

Responsibilities will include care for antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum patients within one unit. Additional responsibilities include the perioperative management of fetal surgical patients. Care coordination occurs in conjunction with CNMs, NPS, nurses, psychosocial team members, anesthesiologists, MFMs and various pediatric surgical subspecialists and neonatologists. Labor and delivery management includes primary or assistant surgeon in cesarean, operative vaginal, and spontaneous vaginal deliveries.

Candidates must have demonstrated capability and experience in providing evidence-based and patient-centered OB/GYN care and in collaborating and coordinating care in clinical teams that enhance the patient experience with a commitment to excellence in clinical care, patient safety, and patient satisfaction.

The successful candidate must hold and MD or DO degree and be Board Certified in OB/GYN at the time of hire. A minimum of 5 years post-residency experience is preferred. Experience in high volume/high-risk obstetrics is also preferred.



What you will do

  • Direct Clinical Activities
  • Provide direct patient care to a panel of patients in the practice.
  • May supervise clinical providers including resident physicians and nurse practitioners and provide performance feedback in all aspects of clinical functions.
  • Supervise and ensure high quality of all clinical care services provided in the practice.
  • Continually review current pediatric standards of care and work with leadership team to implement new processes as needed. Respond to clinical alerts and updates from public health officials and others.
  • Educational Activities (if indicated)
  • May provide support and leadership for resident/medical student education curriculum and program implementation.
  • Research Activities (if indicated)
  • May participate in and/or oversee research activities, as needed, at the practice and provide feedback and consultation for studies as they progress. Delegate operational functions to other support staff as needed to accomplish the research goals and objectives.
  • Administrative Activities (if indicated)
  • May assist with management of the Practice:
  • Evaluate and effectively manage patient access, patient flow, quality improvement, staff performance, effective work teams.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of departmental standards, policies, guidelines and protocols.
  • Other Duties As Assigned.

Education Qualifications

  • Doctorate Medicine (MD) or Osteopathic Medicine (DO) Required

Skills and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of hospital policies, practices and protocols as well as applicable regulations and guidelines. Knowledge of computer systems and applications. (Required proficiency)
  • Skills in exercising initiative, judgment, problem solving, decision-making. (Required proficiency)
  • Skill in developing and maintaining effective relationships with medical and administrative staff, patients and the public. (Required proficiency)
  • Ability to research and prepare comprehensive reports. (Required proficiency)
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and electronic). (Required proficiency)

Licenses and Certifications

  • Medical License - in Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and any states practicing in - upon hire - Required and
  • Board Certification - Medical Sub/Specialty - - upon hire - Required and
  • DEA License - - upon hire - Required
