The mission of the BSU Communication Sciences and Disorders Program is to prepare generations of highly qualified speech language pathologists equipped with a thorough understanding of typical and atypical communication and swallowing processes and the best prevention, diagnostic and treatment practices; and to serve as a professional development, public awareness and clinical resource for Southeastern Massachusetts communities and beyond.

Position Summary

The Director of the Speech-Language-Literacy Center (SLLC) is responsible for and operation of the Center including all aspects of the planning and implementation of a quality program, and the assignment, direction, and supervision of personnel. The Director works with the Department Chair to administer associated clinical education programs in accordance with accreditation standards established by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). The Director also supervises undergraduate and graduate clinical practicum students according to ASHA guidelines.

This is a full-time, 12-month APA unit position and is subject to the terms of that union agreement.

Supervision Received: Reports to the Communication Sciences and Disorders Department Chairperson.

Supervision Exercised: Supervises Clinical Educator APA staff and AFSCME administrative support staff.

This position may be eligible for hybrid work after the initial 90 days, in accordance with BSU's remote work policy.

Essential Duties

Supervise and coordinate the following:* Daily operation of the center including overseeing, supervising, and training professional staff members, and administrative assistant(s)* Oversee compliance with ASHA practicum hours for each student. Work with professional development to assure adequate student progress meeting ASHA requirements.* Distributes, analyzes, and reviews supervision surveys completed by student clinicians; initiates plan of rectification, when necessary.* Supervises and evaluates Clinical Educators' performance; provides annual performance evaluations for professional staff members.* Updates the Graduate SLP Program Handbook annually to reflect alignment with current ASHA standards and changes in departmental policies and procedures.* Responsible for quality assurance in program management affecting adherence to state and federal laws and accrediting body standards.* Compiles data and writes reports regarding graduate student outcomes and contributes to the annual national accreditation report as needed.* Work with CEHP Education Licensure Office to provide appropriate data for licensing applicants.* Schedules external placement practicum assignments.* Coordinates BSU Liaison support to external site practitioners.* Creates and distributes surveys and completes statistical analysis of graduate student satisfaction. Initiates plans of rectification.* Establishes new affiliations in the community, including telephone and in-person communication and marketing program.* Supervises and evaluates graduate students in the SLLC in response to staffing levels (0 -.25FTE)* Maintains clinical education agreements with outside agencies.* Develops and maintains the professional liability insurance process.* Adheres to the Title II Accessibility Standards.In addition, the director is needed to:* Teach appropriate clinic related courses.* Serve as departmental HIPAA and FERPA officer.* Work as liaison to public and private health-related and education agencies including serve as a member of the Northeast Council of Clinic Directors.* Serve as Chair of the Clinical Advisory Board.* Act as a liaison with external sites and faculty.* Serve on various University committees: Academic Council, Leadership Council.

Required Qualifications

o Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathologyo Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) in Speech-Language Pathologyo Current Massachusetts Licensure (eligibility) in Speech-Language Pathologyo Minimum 3 - 5 years of experience practicing in clinical settingo 5-7 years of experience supervising graduate students within a college or university setting.o Completion of a minimum of 10 hours of continuing education in the area of supervision.o Knowledge of ASHA CAA and CFCC standards.

Preferred Qualifications

o Clinical expertise in communication disorders across the life span.o Administrative experience in managing clinical service operations.o Membership in ASHA SIG 10: Issues in Higher Education and SIG 11: Administration and Supervision
