Full Job Description
State Government Reporter-Omaha, NE

The Omaha World-Herald is seeking a collaborative, innovative state government reporter who delights in finding out the why of state legislative action.

This reporter will work in Lincoln and will have an experienced partner in The World-Herald's two-person Capitol bureau. They will be able to lead the state and break news about what is happening with the state's leaders and lawmakers while understanding that the people in power are not their primary audience.

The successful candidate will cover the action at Nebraska's unique unicameral legislature and the politics of the state but will also take their reporting beyond the capital building to explain how the politicians' actions impact the people of the state.

They will have experience covering politics or state capital issues and can quickly learn the ways of Nebraska lawmaking. They will have a digital mindset and the ability to plan and organize their coverage, while keeping attuned to swift changing news.

The ideal candidate loves to dig into important stories with strong reporting and clear writing. Ability to use data, speak Spanish, work collaboratively with other journalists and provide multimedia are pluses.
