- Water Meter Technician I performs physically demanding work reading meters.
- Read water meters on assigned routes and enter readings into the handheld computer.
- Water Meter Technician must have the ability to walk all day with constant bending and kneeling.
- Must be able to walk over 10 miles per day. Walking may be for several hours at a time in all kinds of weather.
- Must be able to visually read meters that may be flooded, muddy, scratched, and cloudy, etc.
- Accuracy in reading water meters is essential and required.
- Must have the ability to lift meter box lids that may weigh up to 15 lbs. and drive a vehicle.
- The candidate for Water Meter Technician I should have problem-solving skills for unexpected incidents which may occur while reading meters.
- Equipment used includes a city vehicle, handheld computer, screwdriver/pry bar, pump, 2-way radio, sight tube, and small hand trowel.
- Candidates may encounter dogs, bees, snakes, spiders, etc.
SOME SATURDAYS WILL BE REQUIRED.
EMPLOYEES WILL BE REQUIRED TO RESPOND DURING SEVERE/INCLEMENT WEATHER EVENTS, OTHER EMERGENCIES, OR UNUSUAL CONDITIONS DECLARED BY THE DIRECTOR.
