This Tradeshelper position will work closely with the Supply and Facilities Sections of the City of Chesapeake's, Public Utilities Maintenance & Operations Division.
The Tradeshelper will work with supply storeroom personnel to help ensure that the supply storeroom remains fully stocked, inventory is accurate, and will load/unload materials from the stockyard or storeroom and issue them to Public Utilities maintenance crews daily. Materials will include but are not limited to gravel, dirt, sand, tools, parts, equipment, electrical/mechanical pumps and motors, piping, fittings, and safety equipment.
The Tradeshelper will also be required to occasionally perform minor installations, modifications, maintenance, and repair of the Public Utilities facility including but not limited to the following: light carpentry, landscaping, painting, metalworking, and minor repairs to equipment with minimal direction/supervision.
The ability to competently use equipment/machinery is required. Candidates must have the ability to demonstrate safe and efficient use of motor-driven forklifts (or similar) and large loading equipment.
The Tradeshelper will also require the ability to use occasionally enter data into Maximo or similar work management systems, complete logs, forms, and reports, and follow specific directions or procedures from supervisors.
Typical tasks include:- Stocking items issued by the storeroom used on a continual basis.- Loading/unloading supplies from delivery trucks by hand or using motor-driven forklifts or similar.- Loading yard stock (sand, gravel, etc.) and accounting for material issued to maintenance crews.- Ensuring yard stock is maintained at acceptable levels, working with the Storeroom Supervisor to order more materials when materials become low.- Inspecting/monitoring the condition of the buildings, structures, equipment, and property for needed maintenance or repairs.- Working with Facilities Coordinator to initiate the installation, modification, construction, maintenance, or repair of discrepancies identified.- Estimating materials and determining requirements needed to procure needed items.- Performing indoor maintenance including painting, light carpentry, or repairs within the facility.- Performing outdoor maintenance including landscaping, painting, and minor structure repairs, and other similar tasks.- Coordinating with field crews and storeroom personnel for tasks to perform.- Coordinating with all field crews for the issuance of materials and supplies needed to complete work orders.- Maintaining job-related forms such as logs, activity reports, material reports, and other required reports as assigned.- Performing other related duties as assigned.
