Assistant Professor of Psychology (Neuro focus)-Tenure Track
Boston, MA

Full Job Description

The Psychology Department at Suffolk University invites applications for a full time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Psychology beginning July 1, 2025. Area of scholarship is focused on neuropsychology or biological bases of behavior, particularly areas with clinical application. We are particularly interested in recruiting a teacher scholar with a research program involving diverse and/or underserved populations and aligning with the department's social justice mission (https://www.suffolk.edu/cas/degrees-programs/psychology).

Candidates should provide evidence of commitment to excellent teaching and scholarly potential, including a research agenda and plans for peer-reviewed publication. The department includes a popular undergraduate major, an APA-accredited Ph.D. program in Clinical Psychology, and a Masters of Mental Health Counseling program. The successful candidate will teach at the undergraduate and doctoral level; previous teaching experience is preferred. In addition to demonstrating excellence in teaching and research, the successful candidate is expected to advise and mentor undergraduate and clinical doctoral students, serve on dissertation committees, and engage in service within the Department, College, and University. We are committed to promoting equity in the field and inclusive teaching practices; candidates who would increase the diversity of the faculty are particularly encouraged to apply. Candidates who are licensed in or willing to become licensed in Massachusetts are preferred.

Faculty in the Psychology Department have a wide range of expertise and perspectives in psychology. They hold leadership positions on national advisory boards, publish in competitive disciplinary journals, develop technology-integrated innovations to improve mental health access, contribute to novel protocol for advancing college student health outcomes and are dedicated to mentoring a new generation of diverse mental health practitioners and leaders. Our department does not focus on a single approach, though we have a shared commitment to advancing social justice. Our faculty are engaged in the community as clinicians, researchers, advocates and consultants. Department faculty take advantage of our location in the heart of Boston, a world-class center of the healthcare sector, to participate in broad research, clinical and other professional opportunities as teacher-scholars.

The successful candidate will contribute to a rich tradition of community-engaged teaching and experiential education that prepares our diverse, substantially first-generation college students-40% of whom are Pell eligible-for careers and civic engagement. The successful candidate will have a commitment to inclusive pedagogy and curricular diversity, mentoring and advising students-especially first-generation college students-as well as conducting impactful research. We seek candidates excited about centering best practices pedagogy focused on active, applied and experiential learning in their teaching; a commitment to ongoing and continuous improvement in teaching is expected. Familiarity with and experience using pedagogical methods that enable students across racial, ethnic, socio-economic, and ability groups to reach their maximum potential is a valuable qualification. The workload for this position is 45% teaching, 35% research, and 20% service.

Not sure this is you? Contact us to find out! Research indicates that women and members of marginalized populations tend not to apply to jobs when they think they do not meet every qualification, when, in fact, they often do.
