The Department of English at Bridgewater State University enhances students' appreciation and knowledge of literature and the writing process. Students choose from a rich variety of courses in literature and creative and professional writing, and gain professional and academic experience through internships, honors coursework and undergraduate research.Our faculty members apply their own passion for the written word to help BSU students develop keen analytical and critical thinking skills, and hone their ability to write clear, compelling and persuasive prose. We offer an undergraduate major in English with concentrations in Literature, Creative Writing, Writing and Writing Studies, and Educator Licensure, minors in Literature and Literary Studies and Writing and Writing Studies as well as a Master of Arts in English and a Master of Arts in Teaching English. The liberal arts foundation we provide serves our graduates well in a wide range of professional fields, including teaching, law, medicine, publishing, creative writing, public relations and advertising.
Successful candidates will be staff members who can work with their colleagues to help meet the mission of the department in serving and supporting our racially and ethnically diverse campus community.

Essential Duties
The Department of English seeks candidates for a one-year full-time, benefited, temporary Instructor or Assistant Professor.The successful candidate must demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of students from diverse backgrounds with a wide range of abilities as well as possess the ability to meet the following responsibilities:
- Teaching responsibilities (12 credits per semester) for this position include (1) a minimum of two sections of first-year writing; (2) one 200 or 300-level creative writing course (depending on staffing needs); and (3) advising of the student literary and arts journal, The Bridge.
- Utilizing an equity- minded framework to prepare lesson plans which incorporate varied instructional techniques, multi-media, integration strategies designed to meet the educational, culturally relevant, and emotional needs of our students.
- Collaborating with all colleagues to ensure proper alignment of related courses.
- Participating in advising students on academic curricula; serving on faculty committees; participate in faculty meetings; participate in the development of departmental curricula; and adhere to all institutional policies.
- The candidate may also perform other related duties as assigned and/or required.
Required Qualifications
Master's degree in English or MFA in Creative Writing.Minimum 5 years of experience teaching English at the college level, specifically first-year writing or creative writing
Minimum 2 years experience in editing and publishing.
Experience working with diverse student populations from a wide range of age, ethnicity, national origin, and ability;
Ability to engage in and develop innovative teaching strategies, and effectively assess student learning outcomes.
Ability to use technology effectively in teaching and learning designed to meet the educational, culturally relevant, and emotional needs of our students.
Preferred Qualifications
PhD in a related fieldExperience working with The Bridge or similar publication preferred.

Salary is commensurate with experience in accordance with the Appendix O of the MSCA contract. A reasonable starting salary range to expect for a new full-time, temporary faculty member appointed at the rank of Assistant Professor is $65,000 to $75,000.
