Lineworker III (Level 3)
Current Utility Workers Contract Hourly Pay Range: $30.33 - $38.47 per hour (depending upon qualifications)
Class Summary
The Lineworker III performs apprentice-level work assisting with the construction, repair and maintenance of either energized or de-energized transmission or distribution lines. Works under close supervision on de-energized lines or on congested poles, and independently on facilities which may be energized, but not above 600 volts; may work independently on de-energized lines carrying up to 140,000 volts, but may assist senior level Lineworkers on energized lines carrying up to 12,470 volts and as a climbing assistant to employees of higher classification.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduation from an accredited high school or GED.
- Minimum of six (6) months of electric services or related work experience.
- Considerable knowledge of the basic principles of electricity; general knowledge of the techniques, tools and materials used in the power line electricians trade; considerable knowledge of the hazards involved in the work, safety precautions to be observed and first aid treatment that should be rendered in the event of accident and injuries.
- Knowledge of the use of a wide variety of hand tools used in plant, building and ground maintenance work.
- Knowledge of the safe operation and field care of portable gasoline powered equipment and air tools as required in the performance of duties.
- Knowledge of safety practices and principles.
- Knowledge of the common tools and materials required in the work.
- Knowledge of the principles of operation and application of firefighting equipment installed in the properties or trucks.
- Ability to make simple mathematical calculations, know common weights and measures, and take measurements.
- Ability to climb poles and work above the ground; ability to test for ground resistance.
