Job Summary
Responsible for developing and improving the knowledge and skill set for NRG Generation employees to foster operational excellence across the Generation fleet and increase NRG's competitive advantage.
- Responsible for managing and contributing to the NRG Generation Excellence team, working with the plant-based training centers and apprentice development programs, providing training content, and supporting the generation fleet's pursuit of best-in-class level of knowledge.
- Design, develop, track, and implement technical, safety, regulatory, operations, and leadership training programs for Plant Operations employees.
- Design, develop, track, and implement consistent Operations standards and best practices supporting NRG's objectives.
- Support safety and health systems to efficiently and effectively achieve the Company's goal of an injury-free workplace.
- Identifying training assessment needs, conducting audits, and assessments to evaluate corrective actions taken on those needs.
- Providing input and oversight to the team budget and future investment needs.
Essential Duties/ Responsibilities
- Demonstrate leadership by aligning yourself with and fully supporting company and departmental goals.
- In-depth understanding of operations, safety, environmental and NERC reliability standards and procedures as related to Plant Operations.
- Champion, direct and support Human Performance ideals and practices within Plant Operations.
- Provide oversight for the design and implementation of all NRG Technical, Safety, Environmental, Compliance and Plant Operations training and qualification programs for Plant Operations employees.
- Provide oversight for the Learning Management System across NRG for Plant Operations training enrollment and tracking.
- Develop, implement and maintain leadership training, specialized plant operations training and apprenticeship (operations and maintenance) training programs.
- Direct Plant Operations training initiatives such as Ops Manager 101, Plant Manager onboarding/team building, Plant Manager Technical Training, Operations Manager onboarding, Frontline Leadership, Plant Internship Program, etc.
- Manage all customized training programs for specific site locations.
- Develop and maintain the training network at the plants to drive consistency of the training process and records management.
- Support the development and management of the technical training center including the curriculum, instruction, and capital planning.
- Manage the development, implementation and delivery of annual Conduct of Operations training and ensure the consistent implementation of the Conduct of Operations and related Operations standards throughout the fleet.
- Lead and assist Operations Support staff members in assessing Operations activities, performing investigations, identifying potential corrective actions, monitoring corrective actions for effectiveness, and reporting findings to Plant Management.
- Develop and lead periodic communications with plant operations leaders to share best practices, current issues and lessons learned.
- Assist plant personnel with gap closure or work plans as it relates to plant assessments and program reviews.
- Support the Incident Management Process for operations related incidents, review investigations, track status, and ensure investigations comply with standards.
- Utilize Intelex for Plant Operations reporting as well as monitoring status of corrective actions, and reporting findings to Regional Management.
- Manage and contribute to the development of written documents to improve operations standards as required (procedures, assessments, bulletins, required reading, etc.).
- Maintain a highly motivated work ethic with strong desire to ensure the continued success of the NRG Fleet.
Working Conditions
- Work in an open office or power plant environment
- Work overtime and non-standard working hours as directed
- Ability to travel between plants 50 percent of the time
- Possess a valid Driver's License at all times
Minimum Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent
- 5+ years' experience working in a plant management or supervisory capacity.
- Ability to travel between plants 50% of the time.
- Proven ability to communicate technical information to all levels within organization from Executive Management to plant personnel.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience as a Plant Manager, General Manager, Operations, or Maintenance Manager within the electrical generation industry.
- Experience as an instructor or trainer within the power industry.
- Personal ability to strongly influence and motivate employees and management in all areas of training and plant operations support.
- Proven ability to lead and manage staff, influencing results through others as well as collaborating with Plant Operations leadership.
Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in a team environment.
- Extensive knowledge of power plant construction and operations as well as understanding of industry practices.
- Basic knowledge of OSHA regulations and Occupational Health Standards.
- Working knowledge of instructional design such as the ADDIE model.
- Effectively and efficiently manage challenging workloads independently with support from others.
- Successful past leadership in Plant Operations as well as strong collaborative skills with colleagues.
- Excellent communication skills; including strong oral and writing skills, and the ability to effectively listen as well as a willingness to voice opinions and offer solutions.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills with careful attention to detail, accuracy and precision; candidates must demonstrate unquestionable trust, superior performance, and have a commitment to highest standards of quality and integrity.

- Ability to effectively communicate to all levels of the NRG organization from bottom to top.
