HQ Location: 205 Southfield Parkway, Forest Park, GA but you will be assigned to work assignments throughout the State of Georgia

Job Summary There are multiple openings for Apprentice Electricians who work in the construction of Transmission Substations throughout the state of Georgia, some of work task examples performed in construction are:Placing concrete Print reading
Grading activities Material organization
Steel erection Rigging
Fabrication Crane operation
Carpentry Working at heights
Switch Installation Conduit/trench placement
Bending metal Adherence to safety procedures
Areial lift usage Technical and on-site training
Candidates hired as Apprentice Electricians will participate in a 3 – 4-year training program.
Candidates hired as Apprentice Electricians who have 3 years or more of Substation experience will be evaluated, and based on experience, background, and competency, may be placed in a 12 – 18 month accelerated training program
This position is a physically demanding position, works four, ten-hour days and requires overnight and out-of-town stays during the week near the construction site. Depending on work location, you could be away from home as many as 200 nights per year. This is cumulative, not consecutive nights.Per Diem for-Travel expenses, hotel expenses and meals
Option Plan I, Option 1 –Long Money
-Non-taxable to employees
-Amount: $166
- To qualify, an employee must satisfy the following requirements:
Distance from home to assigned work location is 50 or more miles
AND - Lodging location is near assigned work location
AND - Lodging expense is incurred
AND - Employee stays in the hotel room, camper, house, condo, etc. for which the expense supports
• Amount will be adjusted annually to keep pace with the applicable “standard” per diem rates as defined by the US General Services Administration.
Plan I, Option 2 –Option 2
- Non-taxable to employees
-Amount: $50
-To qualify, an employee must satisfy the following requirements:
- Distance from home to assigned work location is 50 or more miles
-AND Lodging is provided by the company or paid for on employee’s p-card
-AND Employee stays in the accommodation provided by the company
Plan II – “Short Money”
- Taxable to employees
- Amount: $26
- If an employee does not meet Plan I requirements, they are eligible for per diem under Plan II.
This position is covered under the Memorandum of Agreement between Georgia Power Company and the IBEW Local No. 84 which includes a pay increase every six months until you reach the maximum compensation rate in your job classification if expectations are met. Currently there is a cost-of-living increase annually negotiated with IBEW 84. This position is subject to call-out overtime work, scheduled overtime work, and storm restoration response. Under the Memorandum of Agreement, candidates hired as Apprentice Electricians into Section 6A are required to fulfill a 1- year obligation before they are eligible to bid into other Section inside Section 6 Transmission Construction.
Job Requirements
Education Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent
Experience Requirements:
- It is strongly preferred candidates have prior experience in the following:
- Transmission Substation Construction
- Industrial construction, maintenance, utility, electrical and/or military
- It is a plus for candidates to have experience in the following:
- Working outdoors, with heavy equipment / machinery, heavy load rigging / lifting, emergency responders, commercial truck driving, tree trimming, or farming
- General math skills (Addition/Subtraction/Fractions)
- Basic hand and electrical tools
- Tape Measure reading and comprehension skills
- Carpentry
- Labor intensive occupations or physically demanding work environment
- Working with tools including but not limited to drills, circular saws, hydraulic presses or other battery powered hand tools
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Candidates musthave:
- A basic mechanical and electrical aptitude or background
- A basic knowledge of hand tools
- Ability to read, understand, and follow procedures, rules, and regulations
- Ability to take instruction, direction and translate those into actions
- Ability to perform physically demanding activities while working outside in all weather conditions
- Ability to exhibit safe work behaviors
It is preferredcandidates have prior experience with:
- Construction machinery such as skid steers, excavators, back hoes, cranes or heavy load rigging and lifting
- Transmission substation equipment and installation work to include bus fabrication, foundation installation, print reading and layout, switch installation, structure grounding or other substation construction skills
It is a mustfor candidates to:
- Be self-motivated
- Take personal ownership of projects and assignments
- Have previously demonstrated the ability to successfully work in a team environment
- Have good communication skills
- Report to work on time daily

Other Requirements
1. Driver’s License and Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
Candidates must have:
- A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or
- A valid driver's license and be able to attain a CDL within 6 months of employment
Note: Any candidate who holds a current CDL will require verification with current and past employers upon job offer.
2. Pre-Employment Testing
To be considered for an interview, candidates must pass:
- The Construction and Skilled Trades Exam (CAST test).
3. Interview
- Candidates invited to an interview, will be required to travel to a designated location in Georgia (mostly like the Atlanta area). Candidates will not be paid for time or travel to complete these pre-employment tests and interview.
4. Prior To Employment
- Pass a Post Offer Evaluation Test
- Prior to employment, a thorough background check and DOT drug screen will be conducted (after a job offer is extended).
- You must successfully meet requirements for a Pre-Employment (DOT) physical exam approved by our company physician and Worker's Compensation Medical Questionnaire.
- Any offer of employment is contingent upon the applicant successfully completing all required fitness assessments.
5. Weight Restriction
- Because of the nature of our work and weight restrictions on our equipment a candidate must currently weigh and maintain their body weight at or below 325 pounds fully dressed including steel-toed work boots and hardhat.
6. Travel and Working Conditions
- All construction jobs require extended overnight stays and travel throughout the state of Georgia. You could be away from home as many as 200 nights per year. This is cumulative, not consecutive.
- Candidates must be able to frequently work in extreme weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, snow and ice.
Additional Information
Compensation
- This is a position covered by a collective bargaining agreement between Georgia Power Company and IBEW Local 84. Union membership is optional. Current starting pay is $5724 (monthly) and is not negotiable.
Training And Development
- Apprentice Electricians in Transmission Construction will undergo an extensive training program, including classroom and on-the-job training. The training program lasts approximately 3 to 4 years.
- Upon successful completion of the training, the employee is eligible to bid on Electrician positions as they become available.
